why am i taking alternative depression medicines?

i'm 19, perfectly healthy, but somebody i know has me taking l-tyrosine, 5-htp, and l-lysine....... but these are alternative medicines used to treat depressed people. i'm not depressed and i feel like they're screwing with who i really am , you know? so should i really be taking this stuff?
