got answers? has a spectacular aura about
Will Fish medicine kill my baby fry? Please Help!!?

I have a pregnant platy that I recently got from the fish store. I knew she was preg when I got her so I emediatly separated her from the reg fish tank. It was a good thing too becuase I found out later that she has a WORM! I found a 1 use treatment at the petstore but I haven't used it yet. It says not to use with invertabrats but if doesn't mention babies. I know most meds do though. Will the medicine kill the fry inside her? Will it stress her out and cause her to have her fry prematurely? What if she has her fry after I put the treatment in there and they are born in the medicated water? How long will it stay in the water/ Should I do a watrer change? Does it work better in cold or warm water?

Also, I bought two little mollie fry with her. She does not eat them though. Would they be strong enough to survive with the meds? I don't know how old they are. Should I just try it anyway, because if I don't they could get a worm and die either way!? All answers are greatly appriciated!

I had a very similar situation with my mollies, but she ended up having her brood unexpectedly in the community tank and I had an outbreak of white spot.
The directions aren't very clear with the medications, since they all have different variations of concentration.
Fry tend to be very susceptible to any sort of chemicals.
What I would suggest would be treating her first. I don't know much about worm medication, but for itch meds you change the water out after two days so they water will be free of chemicals, so the fry would be fine.

I ended up removing as many of the fry as I could from the main tank and then treating the tank. There were still a few babies in there when the medication was in (the ones I couldn't get out) and they ended up being fine when I removed them later. But again, this was for white spot and not worms, so I can't say much about that medication.
