my dog wont let me put medicine in her ears...help!?

i have a 1 yr old shih tzu and she has been very friendly. She shows no signs of hostility and is super playful and happy. Even our groomer said that she was a "delight" when she groomed her. However, about 2 months back the groomer said she was hostile and when they tried rinsing her ears she would snarl, growl and bite. This was the first time we heard of this behavior and took her to the vet. She had an ear infection and we needed to medicate her for about 20 days. Whenever we tried she's been the way the groomer said she was and although we've managed we really need to rinse her ears so she can shake out all the stuff in her ears. Tonight we even gave her part of a mild sedative which the vet said would work and when I tried she bit at me. This is really a problem, how can she get her ears cleaned at the groomers if she bites and growls when we go near them with the rinse? shes only bad when she sees the medicine but how can I fix this?
she's really hard to keep still, we've even tried with two people and it doesn't seem to make a difference

If you don't feel comfortable cleaning them yourself, talk to your vet. Many clinics (certainly mine, anyway) will be happy to medicate the ears for you, or at the very least show you a few tricks that won't make sense described over the internet.

When you say you gave part of a mild sedative, I'm curious. What sedative and did you give the full dose the vet recommended to you?
