what's the best medicine for my children's cough and colds?

my 1 yr 11 months old son has cold and cough while my 4 mos baby congested nose? what medicine should i use? i read that phenylpropanolamine has serious side effects. . . what can u suggest?

i suggest just waiting it out. childrens meds have been under much scrutiny lately, it's hard to know which is safest as well as most effective. try oldschool home remedies, and a humidifier for the lil one! good luck!
