What is an epic?

I would just like to know exactley what an epic in Greek Mythology is.

An epic, like Ulyseis, (I have no idea how to spell it correctly, sorry) is an expanded tale that encompasses several adventures in one story. Whereas a regular story or tale only tells of how someone did something, and ends, an epic involves several subjects, sometimes the enire life, of a character.

epic just a word that more than huge or less than titanic"not the ship"something really big..like lord of the rings is an epic
