Why does Y!A have a 'Religion & Spirituality' section AND a 'Mythology & Folklore' section?

What exactly defines whether or not something is religious or mythological?I gotta tell you, a mystical sky-daddy sounds no crazier to me than anything in Greek or Roman mythology..lol, because all the hippy cr*p in modern organised religions exists?Religion = myth IMO

Religions become myths when they are no longer practiced. Thems the rules.

Religion is for peoples belief and mythology is for non-existent things like vampires.

There are really two camps on the issue:1 - R&S and Mythology should be lumped together because they're both about weird stuff people have every right to believe.2 - R&S and Science should be lumped together because they both talk about arguments about reality.Yahoo was just compromising.

I think it's legitimate to separate the two, whether you 'believe' in religious truth or not. 'Mythology' (I think they more properly mean 'myth' - 'mythology' is actually the academic study of myths) comes from a Greek word meaning 'stories', and 'folklore' is clearly concerned primarily with oral traditions. Certainly, myth, stories, and oral traditions are part of all religions, but religion is generally something more - it entails ethics, ritual, identity, and philosophy. More than just being stories, 'religion' is a whole way of living. I will agree that the two are not always easy to separate - should a discussion about Noah's Ark be regarded as 'religion' or myth'? - but there is some kind of distinction. As for Greco-Roman myths: if people believe in them and attempt to live out their lives accordingly, then it is religion; if they are regarded as old stories, then they are myths.

It's just a matter of opinion on what different people believe. I don't believe the same as you but it doesn't bother me that you and I don't agree. I still believe that if we are both good people we should be able to exist together and both be happy and respectful to one another. I think that mythology and folklore is something that is widely accepted as myth.. it might have even been proved that it is false over and over. I'm not sure though.

Because the Atheati needed something else to conquer after conquering Mythology and Folklore.
