Leslie D has a spectacular aura about
Question about Persian/Iranian stories, mythology, legends?

My son's 2nd-grade class is doing a unit on Iran. He is supposed to do a presentation on myths and legends from Persia/Iran, and we (his parents) need to help with the research. I've already done a couple of searches and found some interesting sites, but most are too general--they don't get around to the actual myths, heroes/antiheroes, etc., just how they relate to Iranian culture (especially modern-day). Which is fascinating, but not enough for us to go on for this project--we need the stories.

My son loves a good story. Can anyone out there direct us to a site we should know about, or a book? Or even a story title we could search so that we can read it together? Thanks!

Iranians (or Persians) are not fully arab. Some of their ancestors came from the same proto-indo-european tribes europeans are descended from, so their pre-christian religions are similar to ours.

Try these links:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proto-Indo-Iranian_religion

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persian_mythology

(check the external links at the bottom of the pages and just keep reading through wikipedia, you should find the info you need)

EDIT: I found an online english translation of the Shahnameh (book of Persian mythology).
