Joining the Navy..?

Hello everyone, and thank you for taking the time to read and or consider helping me with my question(s) about the Navy !.

I'll get right into details.

17 years old.

Pursuing a GED and 2 years of college minimum.

Excellent swimmer, excellent with computers, physically fit and tall. Extremely hard working, a quick learner, but a not so violent being.

My questions...

First off, how does my plan look ? GED +2 years college minimum.. Should I go for 4 ? ... How much education will it take to not just be another downed soldier in Iraq, with all due respect..... to all who serve and have served.

Should I try to be an officer ?

What are the chances of going to IRAQ, HONESTLY?

How much say do I have as to where I'm stationed, HONESTLY ?

I live in PA, does the Navy in general give sign up bonuses ? Will they give less/more bonuses in 3 years from now most likely ?

Can they change your career without your permission ? Like a computer mechanic being forced to do Infantry and then OFF
you go to Iraq.

How often does the Navy go to Iraq ?

I'm not afraid to go overseas, nor die, I'm just curious.. So please, don't say "Don't join the military if you don't want to or are willing to fight."

I want to work with computers.. or maybe be a rescue swimmer.

What're the best careers to pick to avoid combat?

Whats this talk about 03-O6's having to pay some type of debt by going to iraq for 6 months-1 year ?

Does that mean if you aren't hire then a O6 you have to go most likely ?

What's basic like ?

They have a pension, Right ?! :S

Should I get a GED and THEN let THEM put me through school ? Why or why not ? (Again please avoid telling me it depends.)
What're the chances they'll issue me 3 waivers ?...

A civil one- Disorderly Conduct for cursing at a cop (Ex sponged.) Was 15 years old at the time or so.

An Educational Waiver- for the GED, right ?

Medical waiver- Multiple medications were given to me til 16 years old, and was hospitalized and put in residential a few times.... surprisingly the recruiter didn't seem worried about this, how come ? When I told coast guard recruiters that they sounded devastated... ?
How hard is it/will it be to hold down a relationship whilst in a relationship ? -Kids.
Does the navy have a lot of casualties overall ?
What are some HONEST pros and CONS about the Navy ?
How hard is it to be a navy diver, so pros and cons for this too as well if possible please ?

What're the chances of them going to the Middle-East ?

A Navy Diver gets specialized training in demolition and mixed-gas diving.


Special Pay Bonuses


In addition to normal pay allowances, the Navy offers the following enlistment bonuses:



* Diver: $35,000



You may also qualify for special pay, such as:



* Dive pay

* Demolition pay

* Special Duty Assignment pay

* Sea pay/sub pay (if applicable)"

True ? False ? Half and half ? Could the bonus be killed if I do poorly on my ASVAB. DO you think I should take an ASVAB NOW to see how I do ? CAN I WITHOUT signing any big important papers aka enlisting myself ?

LASTLY, does the Navy pay for college ?
If they do, should I go for it ?
Do they have something like a "College first" program like the Army does ?
