If i joined the Navy what are my chances of going to iraq? I am going into the navy, and i dont think i will be ready to go to war.... what are my chances? Also is there any jobs in the military that dont see war at all Also my passion is photography, but on the other hand im very oraganized and im happy that way so i was thinking of being in Office and Administrative Support

The odds are if in the navy and have to go to Iraq, you would be stationed on a ship and would be much safer than on a land base. However, the navy will put you at what duty station and whatever field that they need you in the most. that's just the way it is. Good luck!

First of all, DON'T JOIN THE MILITARY IF YOU DON'T WANT TO GO TO WAR. It is always a possibility. The only Naval personnel I saw in Iraq were pilots. In Kuwait the Navy had a big base. If ya wanna join the military for college money just forget it and get a student loan.

I'm in the navy, and the navy has made it pretty good these days. For the past two years the navy has been just picking people to go over there, or you can volunteer for an overseas billet if one was open. Nowadays, you have a better chance of not going over there because the navy has put the billets on a system where people that are up for orders can choose to go there when they are done with their present duty station. i think overall you have a 80% chance of not going over there, but it's not guaranteed. but i would say the navy is not over there as much as the army and the marines. and for the person that said only pilots are over there is obviously not in the navy because i know people that are in different rates(jobs) that are not pilots, and they are over there serving in iraq and afghanistan. So if you want to join the navy i would definitely give it a go. and if you're on sea duty, you won't even go to iraq! but talk to a recruiter and he'll explain the process a little better.

Look, I answer this question at least once a week. Anymore now, there is a very good chance no matter what your rate. It's called the individual augmentee program and the Navy is expanding it. Every sailor is expected to be a "sand sailor" willing to serve in any theater and any position. For example, my husband was just voluntold to go to Afghanistan and be part of an imbedded training team. What did he sign up for? He's an engineer. If you don't want to serve anywhere, anytime, then don't sign up. This is war afterall. You raise your hand to defend this country, you go where you're told when you're told. Period.
