Submarine questions about helmsman and down bubble?

Why does the helmsman turn the wheel to the opposite direction 10 degrees before ordered course?

And what does 1 degree down bubble mean?

The value of "over-steering" would be to take the mechanical backlash or play out of the rudder control resulting in ensuring the start of rudder motion was monitored from zero. The degree of down bubble is the angle in degrees from true horizontal, that is if the planesman was to operate using a spirit level instead of instruments, he would position the diving planes to that value ordered from horizontal.
