Why do you want to control your friend? Let me ask you, lets say you wanted to do something. Would you like it if someone tried to talk you out of it? In todays world, mostly the navy is out of harms way. He can earn money and a trade that can be useful later in life.

Why talk him out of it? With a recession, joining the military will give him job security for 4-6 years (depending on what he signs on for) and job security is priceless right now. He'll have 3 meals a day, a home, and wonderful medical/insurance, all that the military gives him. If he signs up for the Montgomery GI Bill, he can walk away with money for a college education too. Why talk him out of that if its something he wants to do?

Break his leg. Beyond that, if he really wants to join, let him. Support him. Recognize that he has his own opinion and can lead his own life and you can't talk him out of everything. (And any good horror stories you have about boot camp might help too)

I don't know what to tell you because I'm going to join the NAVY and I am doing it for the training and the money help that they give. What I don't understand is why you don't want your friend to not join. Just go to the website navy.com and check it out before you tell your friend to not join. Well good luck and if you need more info please contact me!
