| is the coast guard a branch of the navy? Actually, the Navy owns the Marines but is often considered a separate branch. The Army and Air Force use to be one branch but separated after World War II. The Coast Guard is also considered a branch of the military. National Guard is not a separate branch. Different branches have National Guard and Reserves. |

No the US Coast Guard is part of the Department of Homeland Security.the USCG is NEVER "part" of the Navy not even when the USCG was with the DOT did it "join" the navy. Yes the USCG piloted boats for d-day WITH the navy but the navy and USCG were never "joined" they have always been separate branches. Just like these days with a few coast guard cutters over helping with this war the USCG is not part of the navy we just work together. |
