My son is leaving for the Navy tom. I am so sad. Please tell me(mothers) how did you get through it?

I am so upset that my son is leaving tom. for boot campI know he is a big boy but I have been taking care of him for 18 years ( thats a damn long time) and poof one day its over. I am so worried . My husband is always away from home at work so it was us for a long time. I also have a 17 year old daughter that will be leaving NEXT year. How do you other mothers deal with this?

I too have an 18 year old son. I know it's heartbreaking when they want to fly the nest so to speak. We've been able to Mother them and then suddenly they are all grown up.All I can advise is that you continue to be the supportive Mum that you sound like you are and let him know how much you'll miss him. Tell him to write to you!Let him also know how proud you are of him.You should also be proud of yourself as a Mother for turning a baby boy into a successful man about to embark on a career in the Navy xx

Be proud that you have raise a decent member of society and is willing to serve his country.I would suggest maybe taking up a hobby. You can do a scrapbook of your kids childhood, one of his military career etc.You can probably google and find some support groups that can help. Don't worry even when kids grow up they will still always look to you for advice and guidance.

well i may not be a mom (at least i hope not if so then i should be rich) but i know how moms are when kids leave all i know is that you gotta let go try not to suffocate him. While he is away keep him in your prayers and write to him whether he answers back or not. And send him some gifts that would remind him of home and what he is gonna fight for. Also try not to think of the worse case scenario just keep hope that he will be alright and he'll be back in your arms before you know it. Always have him in your thoughts and make those thoughts happy ones.
