Why can't the US military find al-Qaida?

I was reading online that General Renvart warns of possible terrorist attacks to US. Homeland Security has a "gut feeling" there is a heightened risk of attack. President Bush says "We aren't out of danger. Terrorists plotted to fly an airplane in one of the tallest buildings on the west coast and blow up passenger jets. I know the US Airforce is on 24 alert all the time for incoming hostile aircraft coming into Alaska. Are we really safe from these people? How do we prevent another 9/11 from happening? Why can't we just find al-Quaida and put him and his "terrorist groups" out of commission? If this is too stupid of a question for me to ask just tell me I am dumb broad and go back to baking my cookies!

Well first off, Al-Qaida is a name of a group of people not one person.
But in reality it is a belief system.
Arabs who feel that their version of the Muslim religion should practiced all over the world. That free societies shouldn't be allowed to exist. The people who believe in this are spread out all over the world in many countries. Their is no name roster, membership or uniform. People believe and read the rantings and know they are to attack western societies. So it is hard to identify them let alone recognize them.
The top leaders are hiding in the mountains of Pakistan where their is no government control or modern media.
The key word being hiding.
In regards to a 911 happening again, the only thing we can do is to keep the terrorists on the run so they can't plan another attack. This is a war of beliefs theirs against ours, and it will not end any time soon. This is a struggle that will go for at least another 10 years or more.

No; not a stupid question...if you don't know how else are you supposed to find out unless you ask? Now; that being said I think what you meant to ask was why we can't find Osama Bin Laden...he's the guy in charge of the terror net work Al Qaeda. I won't speculate about Bin Laden because I have no idea what's going with him and our forces who are looking for him. As far as us not being able to find members of Al Qaeda, we have actually found a lot of high value members of the terror group and have either killed them or have them in custody; but they are a huge organization and have cells all over the world; so it's a bit of a daunting task. Could they attack us again? Sure; it could happen....but you shouldn't live your life in fear. We've got the best of the best doing everything they can to make sure that we aren't attacked again any time soon. The CIA, the FBI the NSA, the Military...they're all out there making sure US citizens stay safe. The Government has put laws in place to help. You have to trust that our people who are put in charge of protecting us are doing the very best they can. Keep your chin up and don't let the terrorists win by becoming a recluse and living your life in utter fear of them.

All of the threats are serious ands more than that is a takeover of the U.S. and that is coming too!
