Question about the U.S. Navy?

so, i'm a 16 year old girl who wants to be a doctor or a nurse. although my grades aren't PERFECT, i'm trying very hard.
anyways, my older brother is going to graduate this year and he is going into the navy. he is doing the "recruiters" thing every week now, and soon he will go to boot camp. now i always thought "wow i'm so glad i'm not him, i wouldn't go into the navy in a million years" but my step-father explained everything about it to me. he works with navy people every day and has for 30+ years (he works at the shipyard, and is a boss.. formerly working on boats). what he said has really changed my mind. he said that if i were to join the navy, i would give them six years of my time, and right after i graduate i could go straight off to college to get my medical degree for nursing or to be a doctor, or even a dentist or optimotrist or whatever i want. he said that they would PAY for my college! is this true? as long as i dedicate 8+ years to the navy?
he also told me that as soon as i sign up, i automatically get 20,00 dollars (after i finish college) and that if i lived on base they would pay for all my housing, food, medical insurance, etc.
also, when i'm 38 years old i can retire.
the thing i want to ask is, is all of this right!? it just sounds too good to be true!

thank you very much for your answers
