Wired Optical Mouses/Mice keep breaking?

Well, with my Vista laptop I've had about 3-4 mouses (Is that the correct plural when working with hardware?) that've all broke but it's always the same specific problem, the cursor wont move but the light in the optical mouse doesn't go out.

Sometimes it'll work for a few seconds then stop, I've reinstalled all my drivers. (Ones for USB input) I've tried the mouses/mice on another Vista laptop and they don't work but my problem is these mouses/mice are never misused and only last about 2-3 months and I had a really nifty one that had a withdrawing wire and it would glow with different colours, oh the joy of that mouse!

The problem is after about 3 months it broke and the one I'm using at the moment seems like it's on its way out too!

All these Mouses/Mice have been wired, none wireless.
