| I have chronic back & neck pain and am going to a pain management specialist
next week? 2 different doctors told me that my chronic neck and back pain is related to muscular problems. I've tried every anti-inflammatory drug and nothing helps the pain. I'm also prescribed muscle relaxers to help me get to sleep. After trying 3 or 4 anti-inflammatory meds, my doctor said that there arent any meds left that will help me. I feel like i'm being looked at as a drug seeker because they can't find out exactly what's causing my pain. I went to physical therapy for 2 months and it didn't help. When i go to my pain management specialist next week, what is going to be different than what my other doctor has already told me? Right now, i'm getting opioid pain killers from a friend and they help with most of the pain. I don't want to come off as a drug seeker, but I know what kind of prescriptions I need to minimize the pain. Should I tell this PM dr. that I've been taking meds illegally or should I just hope he prescribes what I need? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. I've had x-rays on 2 separate occasions. The first time I had my back x-rayed and the second time I had my neck x-rayed. The dr. said my back and neck is fine and doesn't understand why I'm in pain. I can tell by his tone of voice that he is doubtful of my pain. |

You havent said if you have had any xrays or an MRI of your back and neck .That may help the docters pinpoint to the actual problem.PM docters do many things nerve blocks,Shots,Tenz Units and medication. But if you go in and ask the docter for a certain pain med you may come off as a drug seeker. There are other things that can be used along with medication and thats how PM docters usually work they incorprate Shots ,Tenz units,Physical therpy So there are alot of things they will want to try on you along with meds. And I suggest you stop taking your friends pain medication becasue if you PM docter does give you narcotic medication you will be asked to sign a pain aggrement and if the doctor finds out you have violated the pain aggrement you will be termnated from the program. And you dont know what kind of medications you need to help your pain there is so many diffrent medications to help with pain some you probally have never evan herd of.And this is why your other docter sent you to a PM docter for long term care for pain. But you need to atleast try to follow the suggestions of the PM docter. But you wont be abled to just go into the Doc get the meds and leave the PM doc will want you to follow a program. And all you can do is try and if What the PM docter has given you dosent work go back to the PM docter tell him you have tryed this and its just not working well and the docter will keep trying diffrent meds untill you find a program that works well for you.Best of luck
