I need advice for a pinched L5 nerve - have pain, numbness and dropfoot?

I noticed a weakness in my lower right leg about a week ago and it has quickly become worse. I now have numbness in my lower leg and foot and I'm unable to lift my foot or toes up (dropfoot). I've been to the chiropractor and have been diagnosed with quite a severe pinched L5 nerve. I have had no previous back problems prior to this and I'm 29 and a healthy weight. I've been adjusted by the chiro 2x and am planning on continuing with this. As of right now, I haven't had any improvement. At what point should I see my regular doctor if I have no or little improvement with my chiro? Any ideas what courses of treatment my doctor might recomment?
