Is my baby teething and what can I do to ease his pain?

I have a 5 1/2 month old baby and since four days, he is very fussy, screams and cries when I want to put him down for a nap or for sleeping time. Just a week ago, I just had to put him down and he fell asleep on his own.

I don't see any swollen gums, nor the upper or lower jaw.

I put baby orajel on his gums but it doesn't seem to work.

Do you think he is teething or could this crying/screaming be another sign?? He is fine one minute and then screams very loud the other minute.

What did you do in this case, how did you help your teething baby?
