Scared! Pain!?

I just got my period the first time on Saturday. I am in seventh grade, turned 13 in October and am 5 feet 3 inches and 101lbs. I was using Always pads with wings until today when I had swim practice. I tried using a tampon but it hurt so bad I had to go home saying it was simply a stomach ache. I have talked to my mom but I wanted other women's oppions. My friends automatically figuered out I had my period today and none of them had it. Most of them just turned 13 or are still 12. I feel like I am the only one that has it so I can't ask them. Why do they not have it? How do you put a tampon in? Why DOES IT HAVE TO BE FEMALES!!! Males are soooo luckky. Please help me with tips and advice.
I am using tampax sport tampons but it hurts. I can only get them in half way and it really hurts. It hurt to sit down. Please help.

My blood was red on Sat. Brown yesterday and light. Brown today heavier this morning light now. I really need help.

Its natural to have pain and the different colors mean that its cycle for this month is ending

use the smallest kind of tampons and read the package insert. I know its like WHY US but you get used to it it probably hurts to sit because you dont have it in far enough try again.

all girls get their periods at different times. i got mine when i was twelve [a few years ago] and some kids in my grade just got theirs. to put a tampon in, you have to push it in and then puch the button or whatever you call it. tampons hurt. i could only get them in halfway and it was painful. some girls can put them in easily while others cant.

Oh Sweetheart it is so hard sometimes growing up, and having to deal with these things. I can't help you with why its us girls it just is, but as to why your mates haven't started yet well that is easier as everyone starts at different times but they will catch up soon and understand what you havee to put up with.
If the tampon hurt like that then you did not hav it placed correctly and that is what caused the pain. Maybe you were not relaxed when you tried to insert it or maybe you used one that was too large for you.
Either way if I were you for the moment I would stay using the pads and if your period comes when you have a swimming lesson get your mum to write a note to your teacher. Every girl will go through this but you shouldn't be embarrassed or be in pain through trying to hide it.
