Chest and shoulder pain, no other symptoms?

I keep getting these really sharp pains in my chest and shoulder. Always on the left side and sometime all the way down to the tip of my middle finger. Will hurt for several days then go away. Sometimes its worse when i breathe, sometimes its not. My mom says gas, but my boyfriend is scared Im having heart attacks. Any ideas?
