White spots back of throat, coughing, pain in chest, fever, lethargic,

sounds like tonsils or thrush, is it? My adult son has these symptoms, he's in the military but won't see a doctor at this time, it could cause problems for him & the other guys. The doctor called & said without seeing him all he can do is take ibuprofin. A quack? yeah. Any suggestions?
