I'm 38 weeks with #2 and I had an epidural with my 1st but had a little trouble pushing. I asked my OB if she recommended epidural again because of last time and she said definitely and that she had epidurals with all three of her children. She said, "Why feel the pain if you don't have to." It hurts but it's not all that bad and you forget about the pain the very second you see your baby. Don't rush it.

Labor is different with every baby even for one woman who has more than one child, therefore I can't tell you it won't hurt but I can tell you it will be worth it no matter how hard or long you labor is when you get to hear you new son cry for the first time and when they but him in your arms you will practically forget whatever pain you had. Yes alot of women have their children at 36 weeks I have three and 37 weeks is the longest I carried any of them the first one at 36 second at 37 the third at 34. God be with you and your new baby. Enjoy him they really do grow up fast.

Being scared is only going to make the pain worse. One study showed that fear, which stimulates a primal "fight of flight" instinct, actually pulls blood away from your uterus because the body doesn't see it as a vital organ at that moment. Trust that your body knows exactly how to birth your baby - don't fight your labor and you will be just fine.

I was scared with my first also. The pain all depends on your pain tolerance level. I know every one is different, but I had 4 kids all without epiderals or pain meds. I won't say it didn't hurt, but it wasn't excruciating either. I wouldn't worry to much about having the baby now, just keep following docs orders and everything should go as planned. Do not try to force an early labor, let it come naturally. And when he gets here, don't forget to take a little time each day for YOU!! It's very important! |

It might hurt real bad, but you'll be able to handle it. Just request an epidural if you are scared. But make sure you request one early enough, i.e. tell your doctor at your next visit that you want one. At a certain point during labor you will be too far gone to be given an epidural, so make sure it's on record that you want one when you first arrive at the hospital. Having said that, the more scared you are, the more you will feel the pain. I know it's terribly hard, but you must try to relax. Get plenty of sleep, have a soothing bath every day, talk to people who make you laugh, listen to your favorite music, light incense, eat some chocolate, do whatever you have found in the past that makes you feel better. Relax, breathe, and enjoy your son! Congrats in advance! |

One word...EPIDURAL. Then you won't feel the pain. Feeling the pain isn't going to make you a better parent. Best of luck! And, you don't want to try and induce labor at 36 weeks. In 2 weeks, you can start trying to get things going by: having sex stimulating your nipples taking 1 TBS castor oil mixed w/ OJ (use cautiously, also induces loose bowels) Best of luck! |
