Pain in the side of my neck...?

i've been getting these weird sharp pains in my neck, close to the jaw where you take the pulse. these have been coming for a good week now and today i noticed an aching feeling inside my head.

i wonder, could this be a severe ear infection? or something else? if it is, could it cause problems/damage to my brain if it got far enough in?
