Back pain and pain killers?

I have back pain that never goes away

I have been to my doctor but all he says is to take the pain killers he prescribed (ibuprofen1600mg)

My question is,
Am I hurting myself in the long run taking 1600mg of ibuprofen a day

My friend told me that pain killers rot your liver.
is this true?
