how do i organize my music files accurately and without pain and hassle???

i have lost all the information of my music files (the artist name, song, genre, album art, year) -- i still have all my music files and they work... is there any way that i can get all this information back and have it applied to the right music files so that i can enjoy my music again?? (right now all my files are named track [ number ] - and this isnt working well when i look for an artist or a song. is there any way to have my music renamed, and get album art and stuff back (can it be done thru iTunes or windows media player?) so that i dont have to go thru listeneing to the 3000 or so song s i have and trying to name them [doubtless if i tried this i would die or my head would explode with the stress]
