Pain in lower abdominal muscles normal with sit ups?

I'm currently preparing to go to Army Basic Training. I will admit that I have been pretty inactive as far as working out goes up until the point that I realized the military was where I was going with my life, so I am a beginner. I've been doing sit ups regularly, every day for the past week. None of my stomach muscles seem very sore other than all the way across the lower part of my stomach, for example around the area that your blue jeans waist would be (kind of goes from hip bone to hip bone if that's a better illustration) Just making sure this is a normal area of muscle to have sore wen beginning with situps.
