Are there remedies for pain after stretching ears?

I have just stretched my ears from 4g to 2g and though it's a small jump, my earlobes throb with the fury of a thousand dragons. This has happened every time I've moved up a gauge, and I still have a few more to go before I reach my goal. Are there any remedies besides oral painkillers that won't agitate the jewelry and by default my earlobes?
