Go back to the doctor and insist on more treatment. Perhaps you need a professional masseur.

well...
i kinda want to know
*how long you've had this pain?
*are you sure you didn't over work the joint and or muscles .. by throwing a ball ...or something, 'real' hard?
*do you ..or have you lately, played a physically robust sport or game?

Joints sometimes 'crack' and it doesn't hurt, like a musician doing his knuckles....so it may not be related to the pain, UNLESS you have 'slippy' or dislocating joints?
If it feels cold or like 'achy bones', then a hot shower [at least 10 minutes] on the area or a soak in a bath, can help warm it up and increase blood flow for healing.
If it feels hot ..sort of 'inflamed' and red, then grab some ice or a bag of frozen's and apply on and off the area for 15 - 20 minutes every other 2 or 3 hours.

If you feel you need to rest the area, then DO that!
Put your arm up for awhile ... if this pain hasn't been with you long then maybe time will heal it [..like about a month or so?].
Pushing yourself / your elbow, won't help [and neither will 'testing it out' every 10 minutes to see how it is].
I would've thought the doc's would have suggested some kind of painkilling medicines like paracetamol, aspirin, etc ?
Those combined with rest could do wonders ...as long as you can stay still for quite awhile.. ..with your arm up.

...and if none of this helps.. ..then I'm in that boat too.

addition:
Take note of how you are sleeping - whether you lye on your arm or not; also even the angle you have it on might not be helping.
Try lying on the opposite side to your arm and have the elbow on an easy and comfortable angle, even using a cushion if that helps.

I mentioned a couple of pain killers above. Check the package to see if you may not be able to take it for some reason.
These two are general all purpose painkillers that are quite good:
Paracetamol was the first one - good for general pain and reduces a fever if you have one. They can make some people sleep more soundly, so be sure to check how you are lying in bed before you drift off.
Aspirin can help reduce red and inflamed areas. It does thin the blood, which is why old folks with heart troubles take it.

you need to knwo a couple of things -not everthing shows on an x-ray and not every Doctor gets it right every time. It seems something is wrong or you would not be troubled. Go back for another opinion and perhaps ask for a referral to a specialist who has more knowledge and experience. In the meantime a good pharmacist can give you advice about some good over the counter pain relief. Also dont forget physiotherapists etc. as they are often much more interested and experienced in these problems and can offer good advice.
