Serious shoulder/back pain.....any help?

I've been having pain in my trapezius muscle literally FOREVER! I've gone to the doctor and they keep telling me that I probably moved the wrong way and that the muscle is inflammed and to just take ibuprofen and it will get better. Only problem is that the ibuprofen doesn't help - and I don't think the muscle is inflammed to begin with. It really feels like there's a pinched nerve, but I'm not a doctor so I can't be sure. All I know is it gets a lot worse when I move and the pain is super sharp and annoying. Anyone think they might know what this is?
