the purple black fairy has a spectacular aura about
what does this painting mean?

it's by edgar degas.

this is one of my favorites and what is so interesting about it is that it is very mysterious.
i know that degas liked to not just capture a moment in time, but poses. i liked the way the body moved which is why he drew a lot of dancers. but in this painting, niether of the women are dancing. the picture is called waiting but they look more like tired to me.
i don't understand it

i hope this one is better
