I need tips on how to go about painting a picture for my mom on Mother's Day!?

I am 15 years old, and I've never really painted before. I know I can do well it if I really try. I am going to recreate a painting of flowers, or a colorful heart.

Anyway, I know I need to go buy canvas, but what I need to know is what kind of paint do I buy? And if you have any tips, that would be great!!

If you can draw fairly well outline the images on the canvas with pencil or charcoal then paint within the boundary's. to prepare canvas .Pull it tight over a wooden frame and staple in on.Cover the surface with a light base paint or jesso..when dry ,lightly apply images with pencil and use acrylic paint.concentrate on light and shadow....No great artist would ever consider competing against a mother's son's work on mother's day....It will no doubt be her masterpiece..
