if you paint your nails and you're not in the emo crowd they def. will think it's strange.
if you feel that strongly about painting your nails perhaps stick with clear and tell them you buff them? that's only a tad metro.

Paint only the middle fingernail, and paint it black. That way, it might look *kinda* cool... besides, if you do it that way and someone makes fun of you, you can raise that middle finger in a nice little gesture to them to "show it off". :P
