repaint after just painted?

this afternoon i painted my foyer red, which i liked in the daytime - but now i hate it at night and instantly want to change the colour.
i had left the tape on because i was going to do another coat in the morning, but since that isn't happening anymore should i change the tape, or can i go right over the old stuff?
any tips on this colour change is appreciated!
