Every culture depicts Him in their own terms. Obviously you grew up in a culture that depicts Him in a certain way. In African culrures he is depicted as black, in Asian cultures as Asian, etc.

Hello,

Because Amex and Thomas Cook and safe, speedy travel did not exist in those times when European artists painted Jesus; few ventured more than 10 miles from their cities so pictures were painted in their outlook and terms. You see that the landscapes, architecture and Roman uniforms as well as dress are out to lunch by centuries. The Muslims ruled the Middle East and did not allow the human form to be publically painted or presented.

I think it started as artist interpretation and just became widely accepted as truth that and because the churches use pictures and other items that reflect it, it is not really questioned my the masses,
