just dilute food coloring with a bit of corn syrup for a liquidy paint (like water color)

or mix powdered sugar, water, and food coloring for a thicker one (like oil paints)

SHINY EDIBLE PAINT

1 quarter size clear corn syrup
1 drop food coloring

Mix together completely using toothpicks. Use to paint large marshmallows. Make edible puppets. Put marshmallows on end of childs finger or end of spoons before eating. Do some finger plays or songs. You also can use this to paint faces on sandwiches, pancakes, graham crackers or cookies. Makes wonderful bright shiny paint for pictures on paper but stays sticky indefinitely.

EDIBLE TEMPERA PAINT

2 egg yolks
2 tsp. liquid food coloring

Beat yolks in small dish; divide amount 4 custard cups. Stir in food coloring. For blue and green, stir 1/4 teaspoon of coloring into each cup. For all other colors, stir 1/2 teaspoon coloring into each cup. To make black, combine 1 whole egg yolk, 1 1/2 teaspoon green, 1 1/2 teaspoon red, 5 drops blue. Use small, clean paint brush to pain designs on cookies before baking.
