There is none! The replacement of Appleworks has been iWork but this only has word processing, spreadsheet and presentation features. iPhoto can be used for basic picture editing.Possible software solutions include SeaShore, ToyViewer, ChocoFlop, and GIMPShop.

Not even sure what comes stock and up front with 10.5 besides iPhoto, but the CoreImage stuff is still buried in the system - albeit, about 10 directories deep.I've been using a paintbrush clone for lazy stuff like adding text (link 1) and Inkscape (#2) for anything needing vector shapes. The gIMP handles the same sort of things as Photoshop (3 &4)Then, of course, Adobe CS3 (Photoshop, Illustrator, whatnot) as far as purchased apps goes. All links are free / open source / not spyware / not junk

There isn't any built-in equivalent to MS Paint. Preview can convert images to different formats but not edit them.Acorn and Pixelmator are 2 commercial apps that can do everything that Paint can and more, but they aren't free and aren't built-in.
