Can some one tell me how to paint a Grulla Appaloosa?

I have painted Native American figures and have dry brushed, but don't know if I should use this to get the color I want. I am trying to paint a horse the color of my grandaughter's horse. Can any one help?
She has black mane and tail, legs are black, has white blanket with blackish spots and the rest of her is a mousie gray. Should I start of black and dry brush?
