How do I remove the "paint" from leather that has previously been restored?

I have a couch that I would like to remove the cracked restoration "paint" from the cushions. Is there any recommendations or procedures that could dssolve or somehow remove this ugly coating? Anything would be better than cracked paint on the couch.
