Lead paint in old house? Harmful??

I live in an old house with lead paint. It is peeling above the shower and oven, where it is heated up. I read the toxins in the paint are released with heated. I only rent the house so I'm thinking I should get the landlord to paint or I should move. What do you think? I don't have small children but I do have a young macaw that might try to eat the walls.

call 1-800-424-lead..the national lead information center..this is very dangerous
