I have just painted my built-in closet using gloss paint instead of emulsion,...

...how bad is that?? I know that I should have read the tin properly, but I didn't. It was several hours ago that I painted and the paint is still sticky. How long before it is completely dry? The surface of the closet is plastered wall, not wood.

I can't understand how the texture and the smell of the paint didn't alert you to your mistake. Anyway it's done now. It should be dry by tomorrow morning. Test it is before putting anything in it though. It won't cause any probs, and there'll be a lovely shine every time you open the closet.
I think you'll be more careful in future though. Lol.

Be dry in about 16 to 24 hours. It might need another coat if it hasn't been painted previously.

you can paint over the top of gloss with emulsion paint though which dries much quicker
