Is there a "safe" paint for dog kennel/cage?

i was wanting to repaint the pan and possibly cage to a old dog cage i have. but i am not shure what type of paint would be safe for the dog. the dog will not be able to chew on the bars, and it will only be used for sleeping quarters. i was thinking of a bright color but not shure. it is a large cage, it is for a small baby pug we are getting and i know they are more acceptible for allergies and strong smells becasue fo their flat face. any suggestions
my family has had this cage for a long time, and it will give him some room to stretch out. its not tha ti am tight with my money, i just wanted to keep it, and dont see the point in buying a new one if this is perfectly fine, i wanted to paint it a neon green color to match the interior of out bedroom, thats why i was wondering. i am not intrested in buying a new one, just want to know if any paint is safe.
