How much paint will I need?

I'm budgeting for a home improvment product and need to know how many gallons of paint I will need for about 1,000 square feet of space. Also, if anyone has tips on how to fix a part of my wall about 2 square feet big where it looks like someone almost dug into the drywall without actually making a hole I would appreciate it!
