Interior paint color schemes for an old (1906)home with original dark wood...

...trim and floors.? I just purchased my first home and I'm in love with it! The only problem is since I get to pick all the paint in the house I have been clueless as to what will go well with the dark trim. All the brochures have white trim and I have no desire to paint or change the original. I have a very dramatic entrance into the house and would love to make a statement with it. I love greens, oranges, and blues....can someone please help me? I have to pick out my paint tomorrow!

Sherwin Williams has an historic collection of colors. Go to the store and ask to see their victorian colors. Or go to this website, click on "find color," click on the "historic collection" tab on the left, and then choose "victorian" from the drop down box under "sort this collection."
http://sherlink.sherwin.com/swapp/color_visualizer/index.jsp

Some examples of the colors are "cabbage rose," "majolica green," "festoon aqua" and "deepest mauve." It was a very colorful period.

Another suggestions is if you have any museum homes from that era in your town, go pay a visit to get some decorating ideas. Such as:

They frequently used wallpaper in that era, too.

I'm so jealous!

I would definately use greens, organges, blues like you wanted but make sure you pick the warmer shades and stay away from pastels.

Go to a home improvement store like Lowe's or Home Depot, and get color swatches of colors you like and check them out against a dark wood trim - either at your home, or go to the stain isle and they usually have sample boards with different stains. Some stores even have computer programs that let you match colors and trim.

You're very lucky your dark wood has not been painted over yet. Most of the homes in this area already have paint on that beautiful wood trim.
