What color to paint my living room walls?

OK, this one is for those of you who have some idea of color theory, clearly I do not.
I want to know what color to paint the walls of my living room, due to the 2nd hand nature of my furnishings my furniture is forest green, turquoise, and deep red, with a light beige carpet. So is there any color that'll make it seem less like a carnival has set up shop in my house?

heh. i have a blue floral sofa, a blue/gold/red/green plaid love seat & a dark red rug, so I know what you mean. However, it all seems to work.

That turquoise is your odd man out, i think. the green, red & beige can all work to create a tuscan or rustic look. Can you repurpose the turquoise to another room?

On the other hand, all of those colors might work well with a southwestern style room.

Whatever color you have in the least abundance, use that as your wall color, and it should tie it all together. Also, maybe find an area rug with all of those colors, such as:

The best thing to do would be to go for a colour nearest to that of one of your pieces of furniture. I would say go for a dark maroon which is more red than purple. Maroon goes with all these colours so it will tie in. The re-upholster ASAP!!! lol

I would stick to a warm khaki or caramel color on the walls, maybe something a shade or two darker than the carpeting. I would then add some neutral colored pillows and throws to the furniture to soften the bold colors.

Good luck!

It depends...if your wanting to paint a color because you want to sell then you would clearly want to paint neutral/earth tones. If you use highly unusual colors it is alot harder to sell due to others then have a hard time picturing their own taste in the home. Also you have to think if its a real deep dark or bright color its a little difficult to cover over, reason why is because you would then have to use alot of primer so it would not show thru your next applied color. Paint technology is so great now that you can take any color weather it be a piece of fruit or some type of color spectrum from a flower....you can physically take it with you to home improvement store and they can match it up exactly. However me personally I would go with the mocha/beige type of color. Especially your carpet could help play off the color. Good luck and hope this helps..
