trying to paint my living room and dining room?

I am trying to re paint my living room and dining room I am so tired of the same baige walls I want to do something different I just didnt know it would be this hard.
My living and dining room are all connected into one like my from room is like a rectangle shape and I want to find a way to seperate the dining room from the living room but I have no clue what color I was thinking a light brown and trim it with chocolate brown but that doesnt seem to cozy anymore so any ideas would help i dont want to go with wild crazy colors I just want something soft but better then the plain baige or white walls. thank you
