What furniture and paint colour will match my red sofa?

We bought a red sofa for our living room as I really liked the colour. We have a new townhouse and the living room isn't that big. It's also the only piece of furniture there. It's a contemporary looking sofa and it goes well with the cream / beige walls. The problem with the wall colour is everyone in the street has nearly the same colour, so I need to change it.. any ideas? Also I saw wine colour wing back chairs which are very traditional but something I really like, but haven't bought yet. I was thinking we could have 2 brown leather clubchairs instead, but the wingbacks are more unusual. Will old and contemporary look ok together or will it look like we just collected a bunch of mismatched furniture over time? Is there a colour that would bring wine and red together? What should I be thinking in terms of rug, curtains.... help!!!!
