To get a SINGING career started? Hey. So, I'm still at this stage where I'm deciding what I want to do "when I grow up"--I have 2 years, and a really good feel for the music industry. I know it's a big dream, and that there's an unimaginable amount of competition out there--But it's something I have a good feeling (not the kind of good feeling terrible American Idol rejects get when they audition, but a genuine, inspired good feeling) about. Do you know of any "Performing Art" schools, or colleges in general, that would help me grow vocally and give me a good head start in the direction I want to run in life? Any other classes or extracurriculars I should participate in for experience? Any and all advice appreciated. Thank you! Also, how many others are interested in pursuing this career and what steps are you taking to get there?srveidde: I completely agree with you. I know people wouldn't audition for the show if they didn't think they could truly, honestlly sing...I just try to keep a positive attitude about it. I'm emotionally prepared to take the rejetions and the long years of waiting for the "break," it's just something I'm passionate about.. I can't explain why, because before today I honestly didn't think I could sing. Everyone else did, but my goal is to sing like Celine Dion, Amy Lee, Leona Lewis, Christina Aguilera--strong, 'confident' voices; not sex kitten or sweet-toned. Don't know why I just explained that since nobody asked, lol--just saying. I'm confident, but I will most definitly have a backup. Definitly. I plan to major in English if all else fails.Nancy T: I thought about actually auditioning for American Idol and other singing competitions. At least you get exposure, right? It's just, I don't know..I picture it being something I stumble onto, not spending months on reality tv running and pushing into...And at the moment, I don't consider myself as good as Carrie Underwood or Kelly Clarkson, who are two of my idols, so, that's a big roadblock.Lol. In my response to nancy I just realized I was being totally contradictory--it definitly isn't something I want to "stumble onto," otherwise I wouldn't be seeking performing colleges. I just dont like the idea of a live talent competition tooooo much..

To get a SINGING career started? You sound like someone who's really confident in their singing. The thing you have to know is: EVERYONE IS CONFIDENT ABOUT THEIR SINGING, especially those "American Idol rejects". The smartest thing for you to do would be to make singing a lesser priority in your life and pursue BOTH singing, and maybe becoming a lawyer (obviously something that should interest you). If you don't become a famous singer (unfortunately, odds are you won't), you will still have a good back-up job waiting for you. No worries.

To get a SINGING career started? If you are truly serious, look into a private vocal coach. You don't want to waste the next 2 or 4 years stuck at a college "learning" about music when you can be doing it. If you don't play any instruments or understand music writing yet, its also a good idea to find a writing partner. Once you gain a bit of confidence and have some songs ready, its a good idea to play to live crowds. You can start with just your friends or a party until you can book a gig in public. You're going to want to record your songs at some point . (Start building a demo cd) Look into a local college or music school that has a recording program because you should be able to get "free" time as a project for students. I hope these few ideas get the ball rolling for you. Most of all, you can't teach what makes real talent. You gotta feel it. Good luck!!

To get a SINGING career started? Well you sound real positive and i do not blame you about American Idol the judging is ridiculous....take a step at a time... Look keep your music as a hobby and get some musical knowledge under your belt and take it from me...music industry is not all peaches and cream and be careful who you sign with ..don't sign your life away....everyone is not your friend....it's not all glitter..but let it come from your heart.... good luck blackdiamonnd
