Can one's philosophy be wrong?

My roommate argues that philosophy can neither be right or wrong since it is not based on fact. 10 points will go to the person who creates the most articulate and logical response to this argument. This is a question where detail will determine a winner.

It can only be right or wrong according to you. It is relative to each person. You must decide. But then you must consider, if it is wrong to your roommate, then it cannot be right or wrong if two opposite views are expressed. Personal belief and universal absolutes are two different things. So, I guess your roommate is correct. Sarte and existentialism addresses this issue nicely I think.

depends..one's philosophy can be right or wrong cuz it depends on wat they have been thru. 2 persons may go thru the same situation and end up behaving differently and they will come up with different philosophy..

Philosophy is based upon one's experience of consciousness. Experience of consciousness can not be refuted. There are concepts and ideas of what is right but when it comes down to the rubber meeting the road, your personal experience of truth is all that matters. Voicing it or discussing it, based upon your experience can be difficult at first. But as you age and mature, you will have more experience no matter how old you are now, and you will find these discussions go easier and go more smoothly in time.

Your belief system should come from within you. Reading about and discussing this subject will bring more clarity to you each time you speak or think. Writing and speaking are the most effective way to grow in this area.

You have heard of listening to your inner voice? Well, there is a very deep truth at the seat of all philosophy and ideology, the foundation of this inner-voice, if you will. When this truth dawns on you, there is no thought or idea that will be able to shake the apparent truth you experience in consciousness. It's commonly known as enlightenment. It's the father of all knowledge of consciousness.

I'm not concerned about the points. I just wanted to suggest an answer to your roommate based upon my own experience of philosophy and truth/fact.

Philosophy is based on theories and there is no great and powerful book to verify the correctness or absoluteness of the outcome of those theories.
Even in the philosophy of science (nature)... if it wasn't for scientists not believing in theoretical outcomes, we would never have alot of valid scientific practices. Practices which go against and disprove the original theory.
As time evolves so will the theories and people will always try to disprove that which has been previously proven. Nothing is written in stone...
If you look at a dfinition of any of the branches of Philosophy, the definition itself is nothing more than a question...
history: is history progressing towards a specific end
education: the best way to educate
language: does limit on language limit thought
politics: what makes good governments
mind: what is the mind and how does it work
religion: what sre the best religious practices.....
and so on and so on.
How can there be a right or wrong answer to any of those questions? As long as there remain two opinions there will always be two sides... one (believed to be) right and one (believed to be) wrong..... the true question then turns to be... which is truly right...
As long as you can't be absolute with no discrepencies then there cant be a wrong either.
So to sum up my ramblings... there is no right and there is no wrong.

Some one philosophy is for right her/him but it is not right for others. Philosophy is base on a fact and personal belief, for example it is my principle and philosophy. Never to open my wallet to pay my date meals in a restaurant, a big why ??1. I don't want to demean his pride as a man, if he thinks he is a superior species to give a comfort and support to his woman,Amen to that. 2.If he is a wimpy and sponger ,he is not getting any chance to hustle me. Sure, fair is fair, but as a woman, if I want to be a winner on him ,I'll have to have the card of tactfulness to deal with him. that is my moral philosophy on men." Be the best shots of every thing you do". That is my philosophy in life.
