Can philosophy improve our world or destory it?

Philosophy has been described by some as the light of knowledge, a way to improve the human condition. However it is also true that there are many different streams of philosophical thought, and it is an unfortunate part of the human condition to find conflict in difference.

Therefore my question is, can philosophy with all its different streams of thought improve a world which is becoming more interconnected and closely knit or will it ultimately serve to destroy it? Why?

Thanks.

It can help find what is true, but the problem is that the truth may be hard to swallow. So we ask now, how much do we want to know the truth?

Whether it's "improved" or "destroyed" is a matter of perspective. For one who believes in the predominate philosophy, the world is improved even as it is simultaneously viewed as destroyed by the opposing opinion.

All that can be said for sure, philosophy changes the world, or at least the human part of it.

Well....you need to have zillion stupid ideas and beliefs to find one brilliant life-changing solution. Philosophy is the science of stupidity that helps the human being to find that one solution.

Here are my views on this important question!!

The power of philosophy lies in its venture into deeper and lateral thought........ something like new knowledge as such... being powerful, it can of course either make or break our world through its profound influence on our mind. In other words, by itself it has the power, but the direction is given to it by our attitudinal values...... I believe that a particular individual could well move in the direction of destruction due to his own negative attitude for which he may find philosophical thought as the most powerful tool...... however, majority of people are sane enough not to be self-destructive although they may not be very constructive either.... therefore for the majority of the people, philosophical thoughts remain interesting ideas, insights and analysis and life on the other hand simply goes on as it is.

Assuming that thinking before acting is the wisest choice, I think philosophy can improve the world. However, all thought and no action will, in its inaction, destroy the world.

Philosophers carry out warfare without weapons. The destruction is not deadly. What is the other traditional method?
